Day 9: Lemmer to Vollenhove, 35 km

‎We achieved all of our goals today:
-beautiful riding, we followed a suggested route (LF22) through a national park to Blokzijl and ending in Vollenhove
-no rain!
-herring (new and pickled), pickles, ‎icecream

The highlight for me today was being passed by and later meeting a group of 6 seniors biking the same route we were. They were brothers, sisters and cousins and their ages ranged from 72-85. One woman had lived in Oshawa, ON for a bit with her husband, and between her English and my poor dutch we could trade stories. Their claim to fame was a nephew who played in the NHL, Joe Nieuwendyk.

Another highlight was passing a warehouse on the way‎ into Vollenhove where they were making flotillas for the city's Dahlia parade on Aug. 30th. When they saw us peeking in we got a whole tour... I'm sure someone will post photos of the work in progress to the blog.
